A Great Place to Learn Kenpo - Kenpo Orphans Welcome!

Sacramento Kenpo Karate is a very warm and friendly school teaching the art of self-defense. It's a great place for women to feel safe and for men to smack the heck out of each other, if that's what they want. The men can feel safe too. :)

Secrets of Chinese Karate

TECHNIQUES IN THE AIR – (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg. 122)

Refers to practicing self-defense techniques without a partner.  Training in this manner requires visualizing an imaginary opponents attacking you, and then applying defensive and offensive moves in answer to his attack.  Executing techniques properly in empty space (in the air) requires imagination and a great deal of practice.  You must be focused on the point where each move of your composed sequence is to be placed, in addition to anticipating your opponent's reaction stemming from these moves.  This in no way refers to AIR-BORNE Techniques.

SALUTATION – (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg. 106)

A series of moves and/or gestures in Kenpo to indicate respect to one you are greeting or competing against at a tournament.

BASICS – (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg. 17)

Simplified moves that comprise the fundamentals of Kenpo.  They are divided into stances, maneuvers, blocks, strikes, punches, kicks, finger techniques, parries, specialized moves and methods.

There are only a set number of basic moves –else are variations of the same.  (The Zen of Kenpo, pg 8)

Wasted inches are wasted time.  (The Zen of Kenpo, pg 120)

In the SKK Dojo –

The children class is moving along pretty steady.  All of our boys and girls are doing an excellent job at being the best students they can be.  Parents, please make sure your student/s ready to go before class starts.  We are averaging about 16 to 20 students a night and I really appreciate everyone's patience when it comes to us teaching your child/children.  I am trying my best to make sure everyone is learning something and in a timely manner.

Our adult class is averaging one new student monthly.  It sure is nice to see our class have the full spectrum of colored belts, makes teaching all the more interesting.   As always, thank you to those who help teach both the children class and the adult. This month we are going to have upper belt testing and it will be well deserved and well earned.  Good luck to those involved in this process.
