Sacramento Kenpo Karate is a very warm and friendly school teaching the art of self-defense. It's a great place for women to feel safe and for men to smack the heck out of each other, if that's what they want. The men can feel safe too. :)

Sacramento Kenpo Karate

Mr. Lee Wedlake is coming to Fresno on March 17.  He will be at GL Kenpo at 2139 Shaw, Clovis, CA. 93611  Phone: (559) 291-1838.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

AMERICAN KENPO KNOWLEDGE 101

CENTER OF MASS – An odd phenomenon where maximum power can still be obtained though the center of mass remains stationary, and the body limbs strike out in opposite directions. This phenomenon can only work if the center of your body mass remains centered regardless of the opposing forces of your limbs. Although it appears as if directional harmony is void during this type of action, power, nevertheless, is still enhanced. The opposing forces of the limbs are not assisted in anyway by the center of your body mass, which remains neutral. As already stated, it is an odd phenomenon, but experience affirms its reality. (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg 24)

Slow moves develop good habits. (The Zen of Kenpo, pg 63)

A form (kata) is a case study of motion  (The Zen of Kenpo, pg 39)

AMERICAN KENPO KNOWLEDGE 101

TIGER – A symbol used in Kenpo to represent earthly strength derived during the early stages of learning. This is the stage where the individual is more impressed with his own physical prowess. (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg 126)

DRAGON – A Symbol used in Kenpo to represent spiritual strength, humility, and self restraint. It is that ultimate stage that all Kenpo practitioners should try to achieve. (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg 45)

SKK Monthly Update –

OMGosh! Our children class has suddenly exploded to 27 students. Wow!!! I really appreciate the help I am getting from those few who are up to the task. To all of the children, I am truly impressed with your patience. I am trying to make my way around to everyone of you. You are all special and it is truly a blast teaching you all. Thank you. Matthew and Joshua, way to step up your game, you two are becoming quite the leaders, keep it up.

The adult class is becoming more colorful belt wise. Yayyy!!! We really appreciate the students who have been showing up on a regular basis. We miss the ones who barely show up, please get your "priorities straightened out" so that you can get in some "hit time" with us, yeah, "we" miss hitting you. hahaha

SACRAMENTO KENPO KARATE

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

New Year Resolution, to attend Sacramento Kenpo Karate on a regular basis. Come on folks, this is an easy one to keep for at least a couple of years.

2012 will be an amazing year.

Stay positive, focused and happy. What you put out into the universe, will come back to you likewise…

AMERICAN KENPO KNOWLEDGE 101

NEUTRAL BOW / FIGHTING STANCE – This stance allows for greater mobility than the FORWARD BOW in terms of retreating or advancing with ease. The width of this stance is formed by having one foot ahead of the other, utilizing the Toe/Heel relationship, that is the toe of the forward foot should be in line with the heel of the reat foot on a 180 degree line intersecting your opponent's vertical axis. The depth of this stance is formed by a Heel/Knee relationship, that is the heel of the forward foot should be in line with the knee of the rear leg when it is smartly and naturally placed on the ground. Both feet should run parallel to each other at an angle of 45 degrees from your opponent. Your weight should be evenly distributed (50/50), with your knees slightly bent. (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg 85)

FORWARD BOW – A stance that can easily be initiated from a NEUTRAL BOW by rotating on the vertical axis so that the rear hip is even with the forward hip, the rear leg is straightened, and 60% of your body weight is transferred to the forward leg. The formation of this stance can give you greater reach, enhance your power, and can effectively be used as a leg check, buckle, bracing angle, or break. (Ed Parker's Encyclopedia of Kenpo, pg 56-57)

SKK Monthly Update –

The children class is really fun. All of our children are doing really well in class. The bright smiley faces and enthusiasm is always wonderful to see. Keep up the hard work guys.

The adult class is slowly but surely growing with new students. We have a couple of new students so if you have not met them please introduce yourselves. The adult class is the main reason why we keep teaching it is always a pleasure to teach people who enjoy learning how to 'move the meat-bag'.

Thank you! To those of you who have taken on teaching roles or have been asked to help teach. Please know, that it is really appreciated. Oh, and that we will more than likely keep asking for your help. hehehehe
